Can one become a mechanic if one doesn't know anything about cars?

Hello. I'm 19 years old and I know absolutely nothing about cars. I am thinking about taking this rout because I love working with my hands and working with a lot of tools. I am in college and am very lost on what I should major as. So my questions is: can someone who know absolutely nothing about cars be a mechanic.
